Matching Police Resources with District 8 Needs

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 @ 7:16AM

District 8 is unique. We have more walkable business districts and denser residential neighborhoods than any other Council district, we have incredible diversity thanks to our universities and tech-sector businesses, and we have more students than any other area of the City. Our public safety strategy should fit these realities. We must rethink our public safety strategy to:
  • Increase foot and bicycle beat patrols in every District 8 business district
  • Recruit a police force that is as diverse as our City
  • Improve lines of communication with institutions such as our universities to educate students early on how to prevent crime and be good neighbors

We need public safety plans that fit our demographics and neighborhood trends, not one-size-fits-all strategies for an entire city.
